With the new year comes new aspirations, new plans, and of course, new goals. However, if you truly want to achieve any of your goals, you have to stop focusing on them. Yes…you read that right. Instead, you have to focus on two main things.
First, the kind of person you’ll have to become in order to achieve your goals. And second, the systems that will allow you to make progress toward these goals.
Think about it. If you set the goal of going running every morning, but you keep going to bed late because the TV is always on, there’s no way you’ll be able to wake up rested enough to “hit the road” the next morning. In that case, neither the systems you have in place help you make progress nor are you thinking (and acting) from the perspective of who you want to become.
Don’t get it wrong, though. Your goals should still follow the SMART framework, with the “M” standing for “Measurable”. “Read 10 books this year” is still a much better goal than “read more books this year”. But these specific numbers are only great quantitative data for you to measure your progress toward your goals—not your personal growth to achieve them.
This episode lays out how Luis looked back on his personal growth in 2021 to achieve his own goals, and how you can do the same to correctly assess yours (which matters more than the goals themselves). In addition, he makes two huge announcements for 2022 that will directly benefit you, your life, and your career.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
- Two Big Announcements for This New Year That Will Directly Benefit YOU
- How to Effectively Look Back on Any Previous Year and Plan Better for the Next
- What is the Growth Mindset Concept?
- Why Your Personal Growth Over the Year is More Important Than Specific Numbers
- Systems: One Crucial Aspect of Your Goal-Setting Process You’re Neglecting
- The Importance of Prioritizing the Time You Have—And the Tasks You Spend It on
